Schulter is a town in Okmulgee County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 509 at the 2010 census, a decrease of 15.2 percent from the figure of 600 recorded in 2000.

Geography

Schulter is located at 35°30′49″N 95°57′23″W / 35.51361°N 95.95639°W / 35.51361; -95.95639 (35.513628, -95.956432).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.3 km2), all of it land.

As of the census of 2000, there were 600 people, 234 households, and 169 families residing in the town. The population density was 681.3 people per square mile (263.3/km2). There were 253 housing units at an average density of 287.3 per square mile (111.0/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 84.50% White, 8.33% Native American, and 7.17% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.67% of the population.

There were 234 households, out of which 35.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.3% were married couples living together, 12.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.4% were non-families. 24.8% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.04.

In the town, the population was spread out, with 26.8% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 27.7% from 45 to 64, and 12.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 89.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.7 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $26,818, and the median income for a family was $35,500. Males had a median income of $31,667 versus $20,417 for females. The per capita income for the town was $12,539.
