Wadowice (German: Frauenstadt – Wadowitz) is a town in Poland in Lesser Poland Voivodeship in the mountainous range known as Zakopane region, 50 kilometres (31 miles) southeast of Krakow - (former Polish capital).
Pope John Paul II (Karol Wojtyla) was born there on May 18 1920. He also attended elementary and high school there, graduating with honors in 1938.
The town is twinned with 4 others, all in Italy.
