Description: The Prince Hall Masonic Temple located at 1000 U Street, NW in the U Street Corridor of Washington, D.C. Designed by Albert I. Cassell in 1922, the Neoclassical building is home to the first African-American Masonic order organized south of the Mason-Dixon line (The Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge; founded in 1825). Prince Hall Masonic Temple was named after the first African-American freemason and added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 15, 1983. Current tenants include CVS Pharmacy, NAACP, and several Masonic organizations.
