Description: Sycamore Shoals on the Watauga River in Elizabethton, Tennessee, USA. This stretch of the river is located along the Mountain River Trail (maintained by Sycamore Shoals State Historic Site). The photo was taken from the middle of the river, which can be fairly easily rock-hopped and waded across. The heavily-forested land on the left is the little island that appears on topographical maps opposite the state park lands.
