The Lède is a river of south-western France that flows through the Lot-et-Garonne department, in the region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. It is a right tributary of the Lot river.

Geography

The Lède has a length of about 54.1 km (33.6 mi), and a drainage basin with an area of approximately 440 km2 (170 sq mi).

Its average yearly discharge is 2.23 m3/s (79 cu ft/s) at Casseneuil where the Lède joins the Lot. The largest discharges are during winter, with 5.38 m3/s (190 cu ft/s) in February.

Course

The Lède starts in the place known as Capoulèze in the commune of Blanquefort-sur-Briolance at an elevation of about 205 m (673 ft).

It flows generally to the southwestwest and passes through the communes, all in the Lot-et-Garonne department, of Blanquefort-sur-Briolance, Lacapelle-Biron, Paulhiac, Laussou, Gavaudun, La Sauvetat-sur-Lède, Monflanquin, Montagnac-sur-Lède, Salles, Lédat (it takes its name from the river), Villeneuve-sur-Lot and Casseneuil, where it flows into the Lot.

It joins the Lot on its right bank, at about 40 m (131 ft) of altitude.

Tributaries

Most of tributaries of the Lède river are very short; only two tributaries are over 10 km long:

  • Laussou - 13.2 km;
  • Leyze - 12.9 km.
